New TAG Heuer Formula 1 Lady At Baselworld 2010
Posted by Janny Long in Watch News on March 2, 2010
As the Baselworld 2010 is opening soon, watch makers exert themselves to attract people’s attention by releasing new models. The new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Lady series are one such latest attention grabbers.
The three F1 Lady watches can easily leave a great first impression for most people with their stylish design. The sleek bezel and bracelet are actually made of ceramic. Although ceramic has long been employed in the making of luxury timepieces by many famous watchmaker such as Rado, Rolex and Omega, this is the first time for Tag Heuer to introduce such material in their models, so there is some collection value for these two watches in addition to their original values.

The new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Lady comes in a black, white and extra-diamond version. All feature smooth lines and basic functions. As we can see from the pictures, the one with extra diamonds on bezels seems to be a little more complicated as it can be water resistant to 200 meters. But I really don’t think such water resistance is necessary. And it seems women judge the watches by appearance instead of functions, so Tag Heuer only equip the watches with quartz movements instead of automatic movements.

Although it is hard to relate the Formula 1 matches to ladies watches, I have to admit that these are pretty beautiful and attractive womens watches, especially the white one. Since the structure of these watches are pretty simple, I think replica watch makers can easily made an exact copy of the watch and sold it in very low price. TAG Heuer Silverstone Chronograph – A Reborn Legend
Posted by Matthew in Watch News on December 26, 2009
The 150th anniversary is really a good reason for Tag Heuer to boost the sales of their pricy watches and promote their brand image. And they did a good job in digging the most out of this great marketing opportunity.
Not long after the debut of the breathtaking Monaco V4 model, Tag Heuer announced it’s going to re-issue the Silverstone Chronograph in February 2010, again to mark its 150th anniversary.

Originally introduced in 1974, the Tag Heuer Silverstone is named after the British racing circuit, which is known as the home of the British Grand Prix.
Originally introduced in 1974, the Tag Heuer Silverstone is inspired by the British racing circuit of the same name, which is known as the home of the British Grand Prix. Heuer named one of its iconic creations after the racetrack because many of its racing ambassadors and F1 team partners marked their important victories on it.
With a totally new square and round case design, Silverstone soon became a style icon of the 1970s. Some top drivers of the period even chosen the watch as personal lucky charms. The watch epitomized Tag Heuer’s brilliant past when Heuer was Ferrari’s timekeeper throughout the decade, and and every driver from the most famous teams such as McLaren, BRM and Surtees-Ford, wore a TAG Heuer watch.
Now such iconic legendary model is going to revive. The new Silverstone Chronograph is quite a faithful reproduction of the vintage original as it features not only the same squared case with rounded edges in polished stainless steel, but also the same vintage “HEUER” logo and “SILVERSTONE” lettering at 12 o’clock, and the typical date counter at 6 o’clock.

Like its predecessor, the new Silverstone is also a two-counter chronograph, with one at 9 o’clock and the other on the 3 o’clock. While the original Silverston showcased a chronograph hour and chronograph minute counter, its modern counterparts presents displays a 30-minute chronograph and a small seconds counter. This is somewhat like the Omega Milestone 1941 and its preceding model CK 2080.
As for the movement, the original Silverstone housed the Chronomatic Caliber 11, the first self-winding automatic chronograph with micro-rotor, while the modern Silverstone carries an updated version of the Caliber 11 with Dubois-Depraz module.
So as a ordinary watch lover, how can you tell the difference between the two versions of Silverstone? Actually there is easy way out. The secret is on the back of the watch. As you turn the modern Silverstone upside down, you can see the words of “Silverstone Limited Edition”, and “150th Anniversary 1860-2010″ engraved on the brushed stainless steel back. The Calibre 11 can also be seen from the circular sapphire crystal exhibition window.

The Silverstone is available with a dark blue or brown dial on a matching, perforated alligator strap. But its production quantity is limited to 1,500 pieces per color and its unit price is set at about $6,500.

Tag Heuer Monaco V4: The Inside Story
Posted by Matthew in Watch Stories on October 29, 2009
What will it come out from the watch desiners if the word of “watch” become just a concept of “time indicator” without any concreate image or textbook constraints? Tag Heuer’s engineers and designers’ answer is: the Monaco V4.

A Complete Break With Tradition
Tag Heuer has been well-known for being the “Swiss Avant-Garde” since 1860. Over the past 150 years, Tag Heuer has set new benchmarks for luxury sports watches again and again. This year, the premiere of their stunning Monaco V4 has again pushed the luxury watchmaking beyond limits.
Monaco V4 is the world’s first belt-driven watch that has been put into commercial production. Its protoype, the Monaco V4 Concept watch, was unveiled in 2004 at BaselWorld.
Like a car engine, the fundamental mechanical factors in a watch are: transmission, friction and power.
Until the V4, the principal components of the modern watch system, regardless of their complications, were generally based on the mechnical movements that were developed during the 18th and 19th century. But Monaco V4 creates a completely different system with the existing principles of watchmaking, turning that heritage upside down and inside out.
Transmission
Traditionally, watch movement use gears for transmision. But in Monaco V4, these were replaced with a world patent: the belt-driven transmission system, which requires no extra gears to send motion from point to another, and is thus more efficient and easier to maintain.
Energy
Before Monaco V4, the oscillating mass of a watch is superimposed on the movement and moves in a rotational manner. Tag Heuer revolutionized this with another worldwide patent: the linear mass, which doesn’t move back and forth but up and down on a track and is mounted on the world’s smallest ball bearings.

The Origin of Monaco V4
Monaco V4 is designed to give homage to Tag Heuer’s 150th anniversary and its flagship series: Monaco. The original Monaco’s outsized, square face impacted the conventional watchmaking aesthetics of a whole generation. Thus Monaco V4 inherit its predecessors’ iconic square face to showcase TAG Heuer’s newest breakthrough in high-end luxury design.
The name V4 derives from the V-shaped platinum main plate on which the movement’s four spring barrels are mounted.

Back in 2004, the Monaco V4 was presented as a Concept Watch, which is he world’s first watch with belt drives, linear mass and ball bearings. That was the prototype of the present version. At that time, many industry insiders thought V4 would not be put into commercial production because of the complicated technology required to made the watch is still not mature.
To ensure the best quality and the greatest reliability, engineers and designers took almost 5 years to finally make the concep watch come ture as a commercial reality. It is not an easy task to entirely rethink the mechanical watch architecture and create a brand new thing.
Great improvements have been made on the prototype watch in terms of the reliability and quality control. Engineers have to develop special calculation, modeling and simulation tools. It is said, the techniques used in the design, prototyping and production of the V4 are comparable to those used to develop complex aerospace systems.

Availability
Such is Monaco V4. It belongs to watch enthusiasts and connoisseurs who enjoy strong and innovative designs as well as mechnical complication.
The exclusive luxury timepiece comes in a limited edition of only 150 pieces, retailing at about 100,000 CHF. The first 75 pieces of Monaco V4 will be available in November at the occasion of the Tag Heuer’s 150th anniversary and the other half is scheduled to be available in June 2010.
