Striking Rolex Datejust Lady 31 MM – The 2010 New Collection

In our previous posts about BaselWorld 2010, there was one of the biggest names in the world of wristwatches missing from our sight. Yes, that’s Rolex. In fact, I was looking forward to write a post about the new Rolex models, but I didn’t have such opportunity because Rolex did not unveil their 2010 new collection until the very last minute of the opening of Baselworld. Now my chance finally arrives. Today, I am going to share with you some really striking women’s watches – The new Rolex Datejust Lady 31 MM.
There were three new Rolex Datejust Lady 31 MM released at the BaselWorld 2010. They are in everose gold, yellow gold and white gold, respectively. But the major difference of these new models does not lie in the material, but the distinct designs for dials and decors.
The everose model features chocolate dial and domed bezel set with 24 scattered brilliants.
The yellow gold version features silver dial and bezel fully-paved with 46 brilliants.
Both of the above two watches have Roman numerals and gem-set Roman numeral at 6 o’clock
The white gold DateJust features fluted bezel and dark rhodium dial with beautiful floral motifs replacing the Roman hour markers.
All the three watches are COSC certified and are water-resistant to 100 meters and of course, as their name shows, are sized in 31 mm case, perfect to today’s preference (the previously Rolex DateJust Lady is mainly in 26 mm case, which is a bit small from the present fashion point of view).
Before the release of the new Rolex Date Just Lady 31 mm collection (especially the white gold version), the ladies Rolex DateJust collection really look’s like small version of men’s DateJust. But now, we are glad to see that they really have some great timepieces with lovely feminine style. We can see the designer’s passion and creativity from these new Rolex Datejust watches. They are odes to the feminine aesthetics in different expression. I am looking forward to seeing more different versions released in the new Datejust Lady 31 mm collection.

Bell & Ross Vintage Carbon Series at Baselworld 2010

Dear readers, long time no see! I miss you so much. The server of this blog went down lately so I wasn’t able to update this blog for a while. NOW I AM BACK!
These days happened to be the biggest feast for the wristwatch world. I am so upset that I can’t keep you updated with the most exciting new models released at the Baselworld 2010. Now I am going to fill in the gap by offering you some old news at Baselworld. If you happen to miss the event, then here is a selected replay.
The first watches I am eager to share with you are the Bell & Ross Vintage BR Carbon Series Watches – the Vintage BR 123 Carbon and the Chronograph BR 126.

The no-frilled watches feature the classic Bell & Ross Vintage design: round-shaped, slim watch hands, slender leather strap. But these two watches are even more simple than the Bell & Ross Vintage 123 watch we mentioned in the previous post.
I am especially fascinated about its two-tone watch hands. The ochreous and black watch hands matches with the black dial and ochreous markers perfectly. The sharp contrast and simple design make the watch exceptionally legible.
Both watches are incorporated in a 41mm casing. The case is made of something called glass bead blasted stainless steel with vacuum carbon black finishes. I don’t know what it is exactly. But who cares? The watches just look great and that’s enough.
These two Bell & Ross Vintage watches are designed to pay homage to the military, in particular the pilots of the 1940s who were the first professionals to use the wristwatch as a tool to assist them in carrying out their missions. Simple, functional and timeless, these two watches can easily hit a man’s heart. I guess the Vintage replica Bell & Ross watches will be hot this year.

Guess For the New Breitling SuperOcean In 2010

Just before the opening of BaseWorld, Breitling fans are already buzzing with excitement, as a photo of a new model of Breitling SuperOcean has just been leaked.
As we can see from the picture, the new Breitling SuperOcean not only shares some common features of the brand’s diver’s watch series, such as the unidirectional ratcheted bezel and the Ocean Racer rubber strap, but also has some distinct design from its predecessors.
The major difference may lies in the dial. Different from the very formal and stylish elegant look on previous Superocean Heritage models, the new one features a wild dial with large hour markers and a yellow chapter ring, which contrasts sharply against the black casing.
Currently there is no more information available except for this leaked picture. Judging from the unclear picture and the previous Breitling Super Ocean watches, I guessed the watch is rated to be water-resistant to 200 meters.
Although water resistance to only 200 meters sounds a bit incompetent to the name Super Ocean, it is enough for recreational diving. And it is said that as little as 5% of SuperOecan watches are in fact owned by active divers. So it really does not matter if the watch is a truly diver’s watch – appearance goes first. Luxury watches are not for the mass market, so it’s very important for luxury watchmaker to spot their niche markets and be special and unique to meet the appetites of those small groups of people. Hublot’s new model, the Hublot Big Bang Maradona, really makes a great example of how to tap the niche market.
While many watchmakers are inviting the movie stars and celebrities to be their ambassadors, it’s ingenious for Hublot to invite the famous Argentine football star, Diego Maradona, to be their newest ambassador, and even make a limited edition watch collection in his name! I like this watch very much for its nice-looking color scheme and ingenious design. When you take a closer look at the watch, you will find Maradona ‘appears’ on the watches three times. Then you may find that the small dial at 3 o’clock is actually made into Maradona’s jersey number 10, which is probably the most favorite jersey for Argentine football fans.
And the back of the watch reveals everything about the watch: at the middle of the watch, it’s the the sight of Maradona’s back in victorious posture, which is the third time he appears on the watch. Around the Maradona picture writes more information of the watch, such as “Hublot Big Bang’, ‘Limited Edition’ and unique number for each piece of the watch. Only 250 pieces of the watch will be available. Only the frenetic and super rich fans of Argentine football team can get this watch.
Before, Hublot have issued some other watches with football theme, for example, the Hublot Red Devil Bang I in 2008 and the Hublot Red Devil Bang II in 2009. But I think the Hublot Big Bang Maradona is the one that really succeeds in combining the design aesthetics and football theme. Even though I am not a Argentine football buff, I would vote for this watch. I guess Maradona’s fans would go crazy about this watch and are eager to pay the high price of the watch if they can afford it. Hublot Big Bang Tutti Frutti Makes Her Like a Princess

New TAG Heuer Formula 1 Lady At Baselworld 2010

As the Baselworld 2010 is opening soon, watch makers exert themselves to attract people’s attention by releasing new models. The new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Lady series are one such latest attention grabbers.
The three F1 Lady watches can easily leave a great first impression for most people with their stylish design. The sleek bezel and bracelet are actually made of ceramic. Although ceramic has long been employed in the making of luxury timepieces by many famous watchmaker such as Rado, Rolex and Omega, this is the first time for Tag Heuer to introduce such material in their models, so there is some collection value for these two watches in addition to their original values.
The new Tag Heuer Formula 1 Lady comes in a black, white and extra-diamond version. All feature smooth lines and basic functions. A new Breitling Avenger Seawolf chronograph is about to make its premiere at the Baselworld 2010. The new Breitling watch, called Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel, is said to be the only chronograph that is water resistant and fully operational at a depth of 1,000 meters.
Best characterized as robust and highly technical, the Blacksteel limited edition Breitling watch is distinct from other by its unusual look and its exceptional performance. Different from most of the luxury timepieces we know, the Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel is powered by a quartz movement instead of mechanical movement. The movement, called Caliber 73 or SuperQuartz, is COSC-certified and 10 times more accurate than standard quartz movements and its battery can last for 2-3 years.
Also worth noting is the brand’s exclusive, patented magnetic push-piece system concealed inside the 45mm case. The chronograph function can be activated while diving through the metal case without direct mechanical contact, which is quite a breakthrough in the dive watch field.
The dive watch is endowed with a range of practical functions: hours, minutes, seconds, date, split-seconds chronograph, and direction memory. There is a 12-hour chronograph counter at 10 o’clock, a 1/10-second counter at 2 o’clock and a date display at 4 o’clock.
Limited at 2000 pieces, the Avenger Seawolf Chrono Blacksteel is priced at around $5000. Although some says the quartz watch is not worth of such amount of money, many do agree the watch will easily capture a lot of attention for its tough look. Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT Ceramica (Panerai PAM335): Stick to Tradition

Clear and no-frill as usual, the recently introduced Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT Ceramica watch (reference PAM335) gives us the familiar feeling with Panerai styles that we get used to.
Although it may look a bit conservative and understated, I am sure that this traditional Panerai style will be always welcomed by Panerai fans, because that’s what originally attracts them.
The watch feature very simple design. There is only two color on the watch: black and white, which ensures the exceptional legibility of the watch hands and hour markers. It incorporates a date display window at 3 o’clock, a 10-day power reserve indicator at 6 o’clock and a small seconds subdial and 24h indicator at 9 o’clock.. The watch is water-resistant to 100 meters.
Like the PAM348 we introduced earlier, the 44mm case of Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT Ceramica is made of zirconium oxide ceramic, which is an exceptionally hard, corrosion and scratching resistant material.
I heard that the ceramic material gave Panerai some technical troubles before. At last year’s SIHH, the Panerai unveiled the PAM 317, which is a Panerai GMT 8 Day chronograph very similar to PAM 335. The production of PAM 317 were delayed because the ceramic is so hard that the craftsman found it difficult to drill holes for the crown and the mono pusher. Fortunately the Panerai technicians solved the problem finally. And they learned to reduce the trouble by omitting the chronograph functions, which means they can drill one less hole. Similarly, to avoid the PVD coating problem happened during the production of PAM 317, Panerai made a little compromise by offering a “smoked crystal” for the case back, which reduce the aesthetic feature of the watch a little bit.

As many other Panerai watches, the Panerai Luminor 1950 10 Days GMT Ceramica is in limited production, with only 500 examples available in the market. The price is around $20,000 US.
